Louga is a city located in northwestern Senegal within an area known as the Ndiambour, which was formerly part of the Cayor province. It serves as a significant cattle market center and provides essential road and rail links connecting the port city of Saint-Louis to the northwest with Dakar to the southwest.
The region surrounding Louga marks the northern boundary of Senegal's peanut-growing area. The local population is primarily composed of the Fulani, who are generally pastoral nomads, and the Wolof, who are sedentary farmers.
