Kaolack is a town located in Senegal on the north bank of the Saloum River, situated approximately 100 kilometres from its mouth. It serves as the capital of the Kaolack Region, which shares a southern border with The Gambia and is accessible via the N1 road.
The city is a significant regional market town and functions as Senegal's primary center for peanut trading and processing. Additionally, it is a major hub for Islamic education, serving as the center of the Ibrahimiyya branch of the Tijaniyyah Sufi order founded by Ibrayima Ñas.
Notable landmarks in the city include the Leona Niassene mosque, which is recognized as one of the largest and most well-known mosques in Senegal. The town has a population of 298,904.
