Koumpentoum is a town and urban commune located in the Tambacounda Region of central Senegal. As of 2023, the municipality had a population of approximately 15,723 residents.
Historically, Koumpentoum served as the capital of the Kingdom of Niani for several centuries. It remains a site of historical significance within the region due to this long-standing political role.
