Kenema is a city located in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. It serves as the administrative capital of the Kenema District and is situated at an elevation of approximately 173 metres above sea level. The city sits within a valley formed by a natural gap in the Kambui Hills, positioned at coordinates 7°52′N 11°11′W.
According to the 2021 mid-term Population and Housing Census, Kenema has a population of 255,110. It is recognized as the second most populous city in Sierra Leone, following the national capital, Freetown.
