Ptuj is the eighth-largest town in Slovenia and serves as the seat of the Municipality of Ptuj. It is situated in the traditional region of Styria.
Recognized as the oldest recorded city in Slovenia, the settlement has been inhabited since the late Stone Age. Its historical development originated from a Roman military fort established at a strategic crossing of the Drava River, which served as part of a prehistoric trade route connecting the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic.
