Mežica is a town located in northern Slovenia, situated along the Meža River within the traditional province of Carinthia near the Austrian border. It serves as the seat of the Municipality of Mežica.
The town developed primarily around a lead and zinc mine located under Mount Peca. Mining operations in the area began in 1665 and continued until 1994; currently, the mine is preserved for tourist visits.
