Metlika is a town located in southeastern Slovenia. It serves as the seat of the Municipality of Metlika and is situated on the left bank of the Kolpa River, which forms the border with Croatia.
The town is positioned in the heart of White Carniola, an area within the southeastern part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. Administratively, it is currently included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.
