Luoyang is a prefecture-level city located in the western part of Henan province, China. It is situated in the confluence area where the Luo River meets the Yellow River. The city borders several other regions, including Zhengzhou to the east, Pingdingshan to the southeast, Nanyang to the south, Sanmenxia to the west, Jiyuan to the north, and Jiaozuo to the northeast.
As of 2022, the Luoyang Municipality has jurisdiction over seven municipal districts, seven counties, and one development zone. The permanent population reached approximately 7.079 million by the end of that year. A significant portion of this population resides within the city's built-up area, which comprises five of its six urban districts along with the conurbated Yanshi District.
