Tiong Bahru Estate

Singapore

Tiong Bahru is a housing estate and subzone region situated within the Bukit Merah planning area in the Central Region of Singapore. It holds the distinction of being the oldest housing estate in the country.

The estate was constructed during the 1920s by the Singapore Improvement Trust, which served as the predecessor to the Housing Development Board (HDB). As an entity of the British colonial authority, the trust was responsible for providing mass public housing throughout Singapore.
