Mariestad is a locality situated in Sweden, serving as the seat of Mariestad Municipality within Västra Götaland County. As of 2019, the population of the area was recorded at 16,611 inhabitants.
Historically, the town held significant administrative and religious importance. It served as the capital of the former Skaraborg County until 1997. Additionally, it functioned as an episcopal see in the Church of Sweden between the years 1583 and 1646.
