Luleå is a coastal city located in northern Sweden. It serves as the capital of Norrbotten County, which is the country's northernmost county, and acts as the seat of Luleå Municipality.
The city ranks as the 25th largest in Sweden and is the largest city within Norrbotten County. As of 2018, its urban core had a population of 48,728, while the total municipality population was approximately 80,000 as of 2025.
The region surrounding Luleå is characterized by vast forestland and several rivers. It is notably recognized as the world's largest brackish water archipelago, consisting of 1,312 islands.
