Gävle is a city located in Sweden, serving as the seat of Gävle Municipality and the capital and largest city of Gävleborg County. As of 2023, it had a population of 86,534 inhabitants, ranking it as the 13th-most-populated city in the country.
The city is recognized as the oldest city in Norrland, having received its charter from Christopher of Bavaria in 1446. It is situated approximately 14 kilometres northwest of Dalälven, which serves as the traditional boundary line between the regions of Norrland and Svealand. Due to this specific geographic location, Gävle experiences a milder climate than most other cities within the Norrland region.
