El Fasher is a city located in western Sudan within the Darfur region. It serves as the capital of the North Darfur State and is situated at an elevation of approximately 700 metres (2,300 ft). The city is positioned about 195 kilometres (121 mi) northeast of Nyala.
Historically recognized as a caravan post, El Fasher functions today as an agricultural marketing point for the cereals and fruits produced in the surrounding area. It is connected by road to the towns of Geneina and Umm Keddada.
