Ad-Damir, also known as Ad-Dāmar or ad-Damar, is the capital city of the River Nile state in Sudan. It is situated on the east (right) bank of the Nile River at an elevation of 1,158 feet. The city is located approximately 155 miles (249 km) northeast of Khartoum and has a population of about 122,944.
Founded toward the end of the fifteenth century, Ad-Dāmar serves as an example of a Sudanese African-Islamic city. Due to its location along the riverbank, the city is expected to exhibit a linear morphology. One of its most notable features is Soug as-Sabit, which is recognized as the most important market in the area.
