Karima, also known as Kuraymah, is a town located in the Northern State of Sudan. It is situated approximately 400 km from Khartoum on a loop of the Nile River and serves as a terminus for a branch narrow gauge railway of the Sudan Railways system.
The area surrounding Karima is notable for its historical and archaeological significance, housing the Jebel Barkal Museum near the hill of Jebel Barkal. Nearby are the ruins of Napata, an ancient Nubian city-state on the west bank of the Nile that includes the temples of Amun and Mut. The region also features a large area of petrified trees located halfway between Karima and El-Kurru.
The land around the town is a center for the cultivation of Barakawi dates. Historically, the Shaigiya tribe lived in the vicinity of Karima and Korti, though they suffered consequences for their support of the British against the Mahdi.
