Suakin, also known as Sawakin, is a port city located in northeastern Sudan on the west coast of the Red Sea. It serves as a significant maritime location within the region's coastal geography.
Historically, Suakin functioned as the primary port for the area. In contemporary times, it has become secondary to Port Sudan, which is situated approximately 50 kilometres (30 mi) to the north.
