Honiara is the capital and largest city of the Solomon Islands. It is located on the northwestern coast of the island of Guadalcanal. As of 2019, the city had a population of approximately 129,569 people.
The city serves as a primary transportation hub, featuring Honiara International Airport and the seaport of Point Cruz. It is situated along the Kukum Highway. In 1983, a capital territory was proclaimed covering a 22-square-kilometre metropolitan area, granting it a self-governing status similar to a province while maintaining its role as the capital of Guadalcanal Province.
