Tema

Rwanda

Tema is a city located on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast of Ghana. Situated in the Greater Accra region, it lies approximately 25 kilometres east of the capital city, Accra, and serves as the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District.

The city is locally known as the "Harbour City" due to its status as Ghana's largest seaport. It consists of 25 numbered communities that provide residents with access to basic amenities. Notably, the Greenwich Meridian passes directly through the city, which was also home to the Meridian Rock.

As of 2013, Tema was the eleventh most populous settlement in Ghana, with a population of approximately 161,612 people. This figure represented a decrease from its 2005 population of 209,000.
