Butare is a city located in the Southern Province region of Rwanda. It serves as the capital of the Huye district and is also known by the name Huye. Historically, the city was referred to as Astrida.
The city has a population of 62,823 residents. By population size, it ranks as the seventh largest town in Rwanda.
