Voronezh is a city and the administrative centre of Voronezh Oblast located in southwestern Russia. It is situated on the Voronezh River, approximately 12 kilometers from its confluence with the Don River.
The city serves as a significant transportation hub, positioned on the Southeastern Railway which connects western Russia to the Urals, Siberia, the Caucasus, and Ukraine. It is also located along the M4 highway, which links Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, and Novorossiysk.
Voronezh has experienced rapid population growth in recent years. According to the 2021 Census, the city's population reached 1,057,681, an increase from 889,680 recorded in 2010, making it the 14th-most populous city in Russia.
