Zhirnovsk is a town located in the Volgograd Oblast of Russia. It serves as the administrative center of the Zhirnovsky District and is situated on the left bank of the Medveditsa River, which flows into the Don.
The town is positioned approximately 320 kilometers (200 mi) north of Volgograd, the administrative center of the oblast. According to census data, the population was recorded at 16,872 in 2010, following a previous count of 17,751 in 2002 and 16,792 during the 1989 Soviet census.
