Ulyanovsk is a city in Russia that serves as the administrative center of the Ulyanovsk Oblast. It is situated on the Volga River, approximately 705 kilometers (438 miles) east of Moscow.
The city was known as Simbirsk until it was renamed in 1924. Since 2015, Ulyanovsk has held the distinction of being the only Russian UNESCO City of Literature.
