Barysh is a town located in the Ulyanovsk Oblast of Russia. It serves as the administrative center of the Baryshsky District and is situated on the river Barysh. The town is positioned approximately 139 kilometers (86 miles) southwest of Ulyanovsk, which is the administrative center of the oblast.

According to census data, the population of Barysh has fluctuated over recent decades. The 2010 census recorded a population of 17,149 residents, following a count of 18,902 in 2002 and 20,213 during the 1989 Soviet census.
