Toropets is a town and the administrative center of the Toropetsky District in the Tver Oblast region of Russia. It is geographically situated at the point where the Toropa River flows into Lake Solomennoye.
According to census data, the population of the town has fluctuated over recent decades. The 2010 census recorded a population of 13,015 residents, following figures of 14,600 in 2002 and 17,510 during the 1989 Soviet census.
