Karpinsk is a town located in the Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia. It is situated on the Turya River, approximately 436 kilometers (271 miles) north of Yekaterinburg, which serves as the administrative center of the oblast.
The town was named in honor of Alexander Karpinsky, a prominent mineralogist and geologist. According to census data, the population of Karpinsk was 29,113 in 2010, following a decline from 36,968 during the 1989 Soviet census.
