Gagarin is a city located in Russia. It is named after Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, the Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who achieved the milestone of becoming the first human to journey into outer space.
On April 12, 1961, Gagarin completed one orbit of Earth during the first successful crewed spaceflight aboard Vostok 1. The flight lasted approximately 108 minutes and established him as an international celebrity who received numerous accolades, including the Hero of the Soviet Union.
