Desnogorsk is a town situated in the Smolensk Oblast region of Russia. It is positioned on the right bank of the Desna River, approximately 153 kilometers (95 miles) southeast of the city of Smolensk. The town is geographically surrounded by the Roslavlsky District.
According to census data, the population of Desnogorsk has fluctuated over recent decades. In 1989, the Soviet census recorded a population of 32,302, which decreased to 32,070 in 2002 and further declined to 29,677 by the 2010 census.
