Vladikavkaz is the capital city of the republic of North Ossetia–Alania, located in Russia. It is situated in the southeast of the republic at the foothills of the Caucasus mountains along the Terek River.
The city was formerly known by the names Ordzhonikidze and Dzaudzhikau. As of the 2021 Census, Vladikavkaz had a population of 311,693, making it one of the most populous cities in the North Caucasus region.
