Kolpino is a municipal city located in the Kolpinsky District of the federal city of St. Petersburg, Russia. It is situated on the Izhora River, approximately 26 kilometers (16 miles) southeast of St. Petersburg proper.
The city has experienced significant population growth over the last century. According to census data, the population was 8,076 in 1897 and grew to 81,000 by 1972. More recent figures show a population of 138,979 as of the 2010 census.
