Samara is a major city located in Russia, serving as the largest city and administrative center of the Samara Oblast. Situated at the confluence of the Volga and Samara rivers, it covers an area of 541.4 square kilometers (209.0 sq mi). The city was formerly known as Kuybyshev from 1935 to 1991.
The city has a population exceeding 1.14 million residents, with the urban agglomeration reaching up to 1.22 million people, excluding Novokuybyshevsk. It ranks as the ninth-largest city in Russia and the tenth-largest agglomeration. Additionally, Samara is the third-most populous city within both the Volga Federal District and along the Volga River.
