Smirnykh is an urban locality situated in the central part of Sakhalin Island in Russia. It serves as the administrative center of the Smirnykhovsky District within the Sakhalin Oblast.

According to census data, the population of the city has fluctuated over recent decades. The 1989 Soviet census recorded a population of 9,693, which decreased to 7,561 in 2002 and further declined to 7,399 by the 2010 census.
