Volgodonsk is a city located in the Rostov Oblast of Russia. It is situated in the eastern part of the oblast on the west bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir.
The city has experienced significant population growth over the latter half of the 20th century. According to census data, the population rose from 28,000 in 1970 to 175,593 in 1989, eventually reaching 170,841 by the 2010 census.
