Orenburg is a city located in Russia that serves as the administrative center of Orenburg Oblast. Situated in Eastern Europe near the boundary between Europe and Asia, the city lies along the banks of the Ural River.
The city is positioned approximately 1,480 kilometers (920 mi) southeast of Moscow. Historically, it was known as Chkalov from 1938 to 1957 before returning to its original name.
