Novosibirsk is a major city located in southwestern Siberia, Russia, situated on the banks of the Ob River. It serves as the administrative center for both Novosibirsk Oblast and the Siberian Federal District.

As of the 2021 census, the city had a population of 1,633,595, making it the third-most populous city in Russia following Moscow and Saint Petersburg. It is recognized as the largest city in North Asia and remains the most populous Russian city that does not hold the status of a federal subject.
