Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and served as the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to the 13th centuries. This kingdom was the first to unify the regions that eventually formed modern-day Myanmar.

The city is notable for its vast concentration of religious architecture built during the height of the kingdom between the 11th and 13th centuries. More than 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone; today, the remains of over 2,200 of these structures survive.
