Veliky Novgorod, often referred to simply as Novgorod, is the largest city and administrative center of the Novgorod Oblast in Russia. It is situated along the Volkhov River, located approximately 6 kilometres downstream from its outflow into Lake Ilmen.
The city serves as a significant transit point on the M10 federal highway, which provides a primary connection between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. As of the 2021 census, Veliky Novgorod had a population of 224,286.
