Apatity

Apatity is a town located in the Murmansk Oblast of Russia. It is situated along the Murman Railway, positioned approximately 23 km (14 mi) west of Kirovsk and 185 km (115 mi) south of Murmansk, which serves as the administrative center of the oblast.

The town derives its name from apatite, one of the region's most abundant natural resources. This raw mineral is primarily utilized in the production of phosphorus mineral fertilizers. According to the 2010 census, the population of Apatity was 59,672.
