Saransk is the capital city of Mordovia, Russia, serving as the region's primary financial and economic center. It is situated in the Volga basin at the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, located approximately 630 kilometers (390 mi) east of Moscow.
The city gained international recognition as one of the host cities for the official tournament of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
