Kingisepp is a town and the administrative center of the Kingiseppsky District in the Leningrad Oblast of Russia. It is situated along the Luga River, positioned approximately 138 kilometers southwest of St. Petersburg, 20 kilometers east of Narva, and 40 kilometers south of the Gulf of Finland.
The town has been known by several previous names, including Yamburg, Yam, and Yama. According to census data, the population was recorded at 48,488 in 2010, following a slight decrease from 50,295 in 2002 and 49,954 during the 1989 Soviet census.
