Vorkuta is a coal-mining town located in the Komi Republic of Russia. It is situated just north of the Arctic Circle within the Pechora coal basin, positioned specifically along the river Vorkuta.
The city has experienced a significant population decline over several decades. According to census data, the population was 115,646 in 1989, decreasing to 84,917 in 2002, 70,548 in 2010, and reaching 56,985 by 2021.
