Syktyvkar is the capital and largest city of the Komi Republic, a federal subject of Russia. It serves as the administrative center for the Syktyvkar Urban Okrug.
The city was previously known as Ust-Sysolsk until 1930, a name derived from the Sysola River. It remains a primary urban hub within its region.
