Megion is a town located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra region of Russia. It is situated on the right bank of the Ob River at an altitude of 45 meters (148 ft) above sea level. The town covers an area of 50.51 square kilometers (19.50 sq mi).
Geographically, Megion is positioned 380 kilometers (240 mi) east of Khanty-Mansiysk and 760 kilometers (470 mi) northeast of Tyumen. The nearest airport serving the area is located in Nizhnevartovsk.
According to census data, the population of Megion has fluctuated over recent decades. The 1989 Soviet census recorded a population of 39,783, which grew to 49,449 by the 2010 census, before reaching 46,566 in a subsequent count.
