Komsomolsk-on-Amur is a city situated in the Khabarovsk Krai region of the Russian Far East. It is located on the west bank of the Amur River and lies along the Baikal-Amur Mainline railway, approximately 356 kilometers (221 miles) northeast of Khabarovsk.
According to census data, the city's population has fluctuated over recent decades. The 2021 census recorded a population of 238,505, following figures of 263,906 in 2010 and 281,035 in 2002. In the 1989 Soviet census, the population was reported at 315,325.
