Tayshet is a town and the administrative center of the Tayshetsky District in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. It is situated approximately 669 kilometers (416 miles) northwest of Irkutsk, which serves as the administrative center of the oblast.
According to census data, the population of the town has fluctuated over recent decades. The 2010 census recorded a population of 35,485, following a figure of 38,535 in 2002 and 42,391 during the 1989 Soviet census.
