Buynaksk is a town located in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. It is situated at the foothills of the Greater Caucasus mountain range along the Shura-Ozen River, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Makhachkala, which serves as the republic's capital.
The population of the town has seen growth over recent decades. According to census data, the population was 40,000 in 1970, rising to 56,783 in 1989, 61,437 in 2002, and reaching 62,623 by the 2010 census.
