Kanash is a town located in the Chuvash Republic of Russia. It is situated approximately 76 kilometers (47 miles) from Cheboksary, which serves as the capital of the republic.
The town is positioned at a major railway junction. According to census data, its population was recorded at 45,607 in 2010, following previous counts of 50,593 in 2002 and 54,585 during the 1989 Soviet census.
