Lavrentiya

Lavrentiya is a rural locality situated in Russia that serves as the administrative center of the Chukotsky District within the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. It is located on Lavrentiya Bay, positioned in close proximity to the Bering Strait.

The settlement is notable for being the only district administrative center in the entire autonomous okrug that lacks urban status. Despite its rural classification, it accounts for 30.2% of the total population of the Chukotsky District. According to census data, the population was 1,459 in 2010, down from 3,012 during the 1989 Soviet census.

Lavrentiya is also home to the Lavrentiya Airport (UHML), which is recognized as the easternmost airport on the world map.
