Ulan-Ude is the capital city of Buryatia, a federal subject of Russia. It is situated on the Uda River at its confluence with the Selenga River, located approximately 100 kilometers (62 mi) southeast of Lake Baikal.
The city serves as a significant urban center in the region, ranking as the third-largest city in the Russian Far East by population. According to the 2021 Census, Ulan-Ude has a population of 437,565 people, an increase from the 404,426 residents recorded in the 2010 Census.
