Novy Oskol is a town and the administrative center of the Novooskolsky District in Russia's Belgorod Oblast. It is situated approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) northeast of Belgorod, which serves as the administrative center of the oblast.
The town derives its name from the Oskol River, which flows southward through the region. It shares this river with Stary Oskol, a location situated 60 kilometers (37 miles) to the north; the prefix "Novy" is used specifically to distinguish the two settlements.
According to census data, the population of Novy Oskol was 18,359 in 2021. This follows a gradual decline from previous decades, including a population of 20,072 recorded during the 1989 Soviet census.
