Plesetsk is an urban locality and the administrative center of the Plesetsky District in the Arkhangelsk Oblast of Russia. It is located approximately 800 kilometers (500 miles) northeast of Moscow and about 180 kilometers (110 miles) south of Arkhangelsk.
Municipally, the city serves as the administrative center of the Plesetskoye Urban Settlement, which is one of eight urban settlements within the district. According to census data, the population was recorded at 11,037 in 2010, following a previous count of 11,300 in 2002 and 14,027 during the 1989 Soviet census.
